Diocesan Sports- Campus School Updates
Cross Country
The season began with practice in Schenley Park in the 3rd week of August. Next year this date will be publicized. This is Marianna’s last year as coach as her daughter graduates and the school will need a new coach next year. Championships will be held in mid October. Thanks Marianna for your years of dedication to the sport.
Basketball
Practices will begin Oct. 15 for girls in grades 5-8. Girls will practice on Monday and Wednesday, Boys will practice on Tues. and Thurs. and boys practice will begin Tues. Oct 23. Grades 3-4 basketball will be held on Fridays and will begin in early Nov. An open gym session may occur with developmental in October. Volunteers needed for food committee to increase number of items available at BB concession stands.
Soccer
Season will begin in March. In order to assess the number of students who want to participate this spring, forms will be distributed (attached). This will determine the number of teams that the Campus School will have for both Junior Varsity and Varsity this spring. It appears that we have 4 parents who have volunteered to assist with JV coaching. This should allow us to break into 2 teams.
Club Sports (Non league) at the Campus School
Tennis, Swimming, Ski – again please refer to handout. (We are looking for parents grade 6-8 to assist with organization of ski club). Other sports programs which Carlow students may participate through East End Athletics include :Football, Field Hockey and Lacrosse
Diocesan and Campus school coaching requirements
Parents are excellent coaches. Parents as coaches are volunteers. There are several paid positions (basketball most recently) when no parent coaches are available. ALL COACHES volunteer or paid must attend a diocesan required program “Protecting God’s Children” . This will be provided at the Campus School on a date to be determined (once all coaching staff finalized). You may attend this on you on at a local parish if you prefer. To prove that you attended please provide your certificate of attendance. George Sliman AD of carlow University will present a program for all coaches relating to motivating athletes and positive coaching. This is part of a national athletic program for which Mr. Sliman is certified.
Fundraising for athletic program
The only fundraiser for the association is the Innesbrook Wrap and candy. This is an Athletic Committee fundraiser. LAST possible date to send in forms is TUES. OCT 9. (date extended from Oct 5) . See BB for concession stand info.
Volunteer positions available for basketball, soccer, and ski club. These positions will assist with team organization, communications, and concessions. Please complete attached form.
Thanks to all who attended the meeting. Please let us know if you have any questions.
