Dana Casale called the meeting to order at 8:15am
Featured Speaker, Rachel Filippini from GASP
Parent Julie Burgo invited Rachel Filippini to speak about GASP (Group Against Smog and Pollution) This is a group that has been operating for over 40 years to improve air quality in the Pittsburgh and Allegheny county area. Most school buses run on diesel fuel. Diesel vehicles release fine particulate matter (PM) into the air, increasing risks of asthma, breathing problems and health hazards, especially in children. Some solutions to the problem include 1. retro-fitting school buses, 2. using cleaner fuels, and 3. instituting anti-idling regulations. Rachel is urging parents to contact their school bus provider to verify or encourage buses to be retrofitted. Almost $1 million dollars is available city and county-wide (The Pittsburgh Healthy School Bus Fund at http://dieselretrofitrebate.org) to retrofit the buses. There is a School Board Meeting April 17th, GASP will be speaking trying to pass policy on this issue.

Other News
The Carlow commercial is available on the PTA website and has aired locally. There are no more open houses scheduled. Viewbook is being redone for a new fall edition. 6 new kindergartners are enrolled for next year, along with 8 Montessori.
